In third world countries, the significance of social infrastructure for women cannot be overstated. Accessible and well-equipped healthcare facilities cater to women’s unique healthcare needs, including reproductive health services and maternal care, reducing maternal mortality rates and improving overall well-being. Educational institutions offer pathways for women to acquire knowledge and skills, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and contribute to their communities’ economic development. Community centers and safe public spaces provide platforms for women to gather, share experiences, and access support networks, fostering social empowerment and collective advocacy for gender equality. By investing in social infrastructure tailored to women’s needs, third world countries can address systemic inequalities, enhance women’s agency and autonomy, and pave the way for more inclusive and prosperous societies.

This publication explores the significance of social infrastructure and its profound impact on women in developing countries. It includes three case studies in architecture specifically designed to benefit women living in poverty.
